Your Banya Questions Answered

This section provides answers to commonly asked questions. We trust it will help you to understand our services better. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What is a banya? Is it the same as a sauna?

A banya is the Russian version of a sauna. While both use heat and steam, the banya stands out for its unique rituals and approach to wellness. Expect aromatic steam created by pouring water over hot stones, the use of leafy bundles (called venik) for gentle whisking, and invigorating cycles of hot and cold. It’s more than a sauna—it’s a cultural tradition for holistic rejuvenation.

How is the banya experience different from other types of sauna?

The Russian banya is highly ritualistic. In modern times, it has become quite social, but we like to dig deeper and come back to the roots of this centuries-old tradition, connecting to its shamanic & ritualistic aspects.

Is the banya suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. Our sessions are guided and tailored for all experience levels. We’ll walk you through every step, ensuring a safe and rewarding experience no matter your familiarity with sauna culture.

Can I customise my session?

Yes. Let us know about your goals, preferences, or health needs in advance, and we’ll tailor the experience for you or your group. We will work with your heat preference as well.

Are there health considerations I should be aware of?

While sauna and heat exposure are suitable for most people, those with heart conditions, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or certain chronic illnesses should consult their healthcare provider before participating. Sauna is contraindicated for pregnant women. Please let us know about any health concerns ahead of time.

What items do I need to enjoy the portable sauna experience?

Please bring a refillable water bottle, a towel to sit on in the sauna, a towel to dry with, and, optionally, a robe or a gown to stay warm after the session. We do not encourage wearing synthetic swimwear with prolonged heat exposure. If you would like to stay covered, cotton or linen wraps are most suitable. If you have specific needs, let us know when booking.

How do you ensure guest safety?

Our certified guides manage every session, monitor conditions, and provide thorough safety instructions. We’re always available during your session to assist or answer questions.

How should I prepare for my session?

Arrive well-hydrated and avoid heavy meals immediately beforehand. Most importantly, come with an open mind and readiness to relax and enjoy the ritual.
